Editorial - Newsletter July 2023

This July, interactions with the popular ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool to create jokes are expected to increase.

Many humorists mock and do not believe in this threat, stating that it is impossible to create good humor in this way.

We know that we are still in diapers, but we do not rule out that very soon we will have overwhelming competition in AI.

For example, the first Artificial Intelligence with a sense of humor has already been born: her name is Erica, she was programmed by the University of Kyoto and, in addition to knowing how to laugh, she knows when the right time is to do so. Another step towards creating more natural interactions between humans and robots.

For this reason we must take advantage of the fact that we are on time and continue analyzing and reflecting on humor, since no one guarantees us that with these advances one day we will not have the need to do so.

It is another reason then to publish this new issue of the Humor Sapiens Newsletter, which will feature the interview that our editor conducted with the renowned Cuban stage humorist and one of the founders of the well-remembered group La Seña del Humor, Mr. Moisés Rodríguez.

You can also enjoy the gaze of the Argentine graphic humorist Marlene Pohle in the section "Aging with humor" by the Portuguese Osvaldo Macedo de Sousa.

Continuing with his series of articles entitled "Visual Moods", the Cuban Francisco Puñal Suárez brings us "Elliott Erwitt turns 95 in July", a tribute and review of the work of that great photographer.

And in his column "Moods of the world - a world of humors", Osvaldo Macedo de Sousa addresses the humor of the Republic of Sudan, through the graphic humorist Talal Nayer.

Closing this first part of the Bulletin with a flourish, we have a very pleasant surprise: the Spanish humor scholar, writer and journalist Félix Caballero is launching a regular section on our site humorsaoiens.com with his “Ay, humor, ay humor”. You can not miss it.
